According to data from the United Nations, 74% of the world’s population will live in urban areas in 2050. With the high level of urbanization, people are required to consider how to take advantage of space, energy and environmental efficiency. With this background, Electrolux initiated to develop a new design concept that describes the life of the community in the future.

Imagine if we can cook without using pots and pans, no need to read a recipe book or do not have to worry about the freshness of the food. Heart of Home is an idea of the future that combines the kitchen counter and stove in one unit.

‘Heart of the Home’ is a clever cook table that can adjust the shape according to the needs of cooking. Only by putting a food on the stove, ‘Heart of the Home’ will analyze the material and display a variety of recipes that fit with the material. After selecting the desired recipe, the user can set the desired cooking a large area just by touching the tabletop. The depth can be adjusted by pressing the soft surface of the table as necessary. In addition, touching the surface of the table can also be performed to determine the time and temperature required when cooking.

History of the Heart of the Home
In the year 2008 for the first time in history more people live in urban areas than rural. According to UN data, has been estimated that by the year 2050, 74% world’s population will live in urban areas. As a reference in 1950 only 29% of the populations live in urban areas. Based on the estimates below, Electrolux to develop the Heart of Home as an illustration of what will be faced by the community in 2050:

Social needs is essential. Social activities are an important part of life, especially with family and friends. Increased use of high-tech equipment in the socializing is a sign that we want to experience a real social life and the real.

We need a minimalist home. With limited space in big cities in the future, the house must be more flexible and can be adapted to various situations. So must with household appliances. There is no room left for equipment that has only one function.

Society should be more effective. When 74% of the 9 billion people live in urban areas, everyone must adjust their lifestyles with what is available. Processing returned goods must be unused. Products and places that are energy efficient are needed more than ever.

We can not survive without technology. Technology is extremely important today, but in 2050 we can not live without technology. Technological sophistication is a requirement to be able to continue to grow both in scope and social environment.

Heart of The Home was first shown in DesignBoost in Stockholm on February 12, 2010. Design Boost is a seminar where the experts come together and discuss their innovative minds in enhancing the competence of a product through design and other creative functions overall.
